The panel will focus on one of the ‘first steps’ to achieving employment of youth with disabilities: eliminating systemic barriers to higher education. Panelists will discuss how students with disabilities are not only affected by lack of accommodations during entrance exams and in classroom settings, but also by limited access to housing, transportation, and other community services necessary for independent living and thriving in academic spaces. The panel discussion will highlight cross-national (US–Japan) differences in approaches to accommodation in higher education and reveal how ‘access-makers’ in both countries can learn from one another to facilitate inclusion. The role of government in supporting the transition of young people with disabilities from higher education to employment will also be addressed.
This webinar is free and open to public, but registration is required.

教育現場から雇用へ：どのようにして障害のある学生達が高等教育におけるアクセシビリティを阻む障壁を克服しているか？
本パネルでは、障害のある若者の雇用を実現するための最初の取り組みとして、高等教育への進学を阻む体系的な障壁を除くことに焦点を当てる。パネリストは、入学試験時や教室内における配慮不足だけでなく、自立生活や学業面で目標を達成する際に必要となる住居や交通、その他の地域サービスなどへのアクセスの制限によって障害学生がどのような影響を受けるのかについて意見を交わす。本パネル・ディスカッションでは、日米の高等教育における配慮への取り組み方の相違点を浮き彫りにし、インクルージョン促進のために日米両国の「アクセス・メーカー」がどのようにお互いから学び合うことができるのかを明らかにする。さらに、障害のある若者達の高等教育から雇用への移行を支援する政府の役割についても言及する。
